color studies with no frame. fuck frames.

check out this guy Richard Gorman at the Kerlin Gallery. I love that he is interested in color studies with guashe, like me! And that he doesn't use a frame and is still in a sick gallery. Fuck frames.

Feminist/Consumerist Art Show

Come all! June 1st at Tapps there will be a Feminist/Consumerist art show, featuring mwah, Amyable. It sounds incredibly silly and pretentious, but I don't think my stuff will be (or Charlotte Hacker-Mullen's). All in all the show is 5 bucks and it just goes towards the rent of the space and to help art funding in local public schools. And there will be booze. So if you happen to read my blog and like my work and are in Columbia the first week of June, drop by!
These photos are the pieces I'm working on to submit. These two are done except I need to trim the boarders off. I'm a fan of portraits, and I think everyone likes female nudes. Having a background in art history made me choose this subject matter because they have been popular subjects since the beginning of art and still are very relevant. Taking from the ideas behind Manet's Olympia, I painted nudes from pornographic magazines. I think they say a little something about modern women in their modern painterly style and color choices. Maybe not. I will have more pictures when I have some more paintings. For now it's off to lowes for more aluminum siding!
FYI, these paintings are larger, about 2x4 ft.

Caroline Guitar Company

I have been assigned to paint a pedal for Caroline Guitar Company. Hopefully someone buys it and I can make some moolah for my Euro trip with the Freys.

Green curry!

For dinner since I had the night off, I made green curry with butternut squash, green beans, and yellow bell pepper. Delish!

Wedding present

Keeping in an Appalachian family tradition- a hand made blanket for my mother's newly-wed bed. I'm about halfway done. Thank you RCPL for the wonderful collection of crochet and knitting books.

Using crayon

I'm working on a new piece that uses layers instead of painting directly on the aluminum siding. I used two new-ish mediums in this piece--- airbrush paint and crayons. Love the airbrush paint, it's like painting with guashe, if the water were already mixed in. It's on sale at city art right now for 20% off.

About Me

My photo
My favorite holidays are groundhog day and valentines day. I like that they are close together and that one is silly and one is romantic. Romantic/beautiful things and silly things are my favorite kinds of things along with all things American, particularly things of the south and of appalachia. I live with my best friend/love of my life along with my two beautiful doggies in the famously hot south. My favorite food is a bean burrito with rice, lettuce, tomato, sour cream, pico, verde, guac, and hot sauce. I love to make art about the simple, cute, funny things in life, because I think they are the most important in being happy (and being happy is most important I think).
